Good Seafood Guide Score: 5/5

Our Cornish squid have a firm texture and a lovely creamy coloured flesh, which is absolutely delicious seared on the barbecue, or fried in a light tempura batter.

Forget classic calamari for a minute – squid are so much more versatile than just being deep fried in stodgy breadcrumbs!

Squid are an odd looking sea creature and rely on jet propulsion to catch their prey – having first spotted it with those enormous eyes.

Our Cornish squid have a firm texture and a lovely creamy coloured flesh, which is absolutely delicious seared on the barbecue, or fried in a light tempura batter.

Squid needs either to be cooked very quickly, or very slowly – it’s great flash fried with just a tint bit of flour, salt and pepper, and it’s equally good braised for an hour or two with red wine, fennel and tomatoes.

Please note the number of squid to the kilo will vary depending on the size of the fish landed on the market that day.

Facts

Comes cleaned and ready to cook (please expect 50% yield of the 1kg pre cleaned weight)

Sourced from mix catch trawls along the Cornish coast. Our preference is to buy our squid from Looe or Plymouth fish markets - we think it's the best available anywhere!

Available year-round.

Please note that due to market conditions, sometimes dictated by the weather on rare occasions we may have to send you frozen fish, which could arrive partially-defrosted.

Squid arrives cleaned which is all the prep needed for it prior to you cooking it.

Cleaning it removes some of the weight, so please expect 50% yield of the 1kg pre cleaned weight.

Fresh fish is best eaten straight away, or within 3 days.

Store in your refrigerator and pack with ice if possible.

To freeze; place the fish straight in the freezer upon delivery and aim to consume within 3 months.

TIP: Write the date on the packaging before freezing.
