A family-run Fishmonger in Cornwall has been recognised as the best in the country, being named the UK’s Fishmonger of the Year for the second year running

Mid-Cornwall based fishmongers Wing of St Mawes was presented with the award for their national home delivery service ‘The Cornish Fishmonger’ after a public vote by readers of Great British Food Magazine.

For nearly forty years, Wing of St Mawes have been supplying seafood to many of the UK’s top restaurants and hotels as well as through their popular online home delivery service. The Cornish Fishmonger dispatches tens of thousands of orders to customers across the UK every year.  They were also recognised with highly-commended awards for their premium Fish Pie mix, and The Cornish Fishmonger’s Smoked Salmon which has regular airings on QVC.

Operations Manager Jack Wing said: “To be named the UK Fishmonger of the Year for two consecutive years really is a dream come true, especially as it was voted for by our customers.  These awards recognise the provenance of Cornish seafood and the hardworking fishermen who risk their lives to catch great quality fish.”

Earlier this year, The Cornish Fishmonger was also awarded Online Retailer of the Year in the regional Taste of the West awards, achieving gold ratings for its Smoked Salmon, Mussels, Haddock and Kippers.

Jack continued: “We firmly believe the seafood caught and landed here in Cornwall is some of the finest in the world. We are proud to be able to champion and support the Cornish fishing industry. Our commitment is illustrated by a significant investment in brand-new state-of-the-art factory and offices”.

“Special thanks go to our staff as it is their skill and commitment which earned us the reputation for delivering great quality, sustainable fish and seafood.

“Our appreciation and thanks goes to those readers and customers who voted for us – once again, we are humbled by your support.”
