Pretty, plump and heart-shaped, cockles live along sheltered seashores throughout the UK.
They’re traditionally served alongside laver bread and bacon as part of a Welsh Breakfast, but cockles are wonderful in other dishes too. You’ll find them pickled in vinegar in supermarkets, but nothing beats the taste of freshly harvested cockles straight from the seashore. They lend a sweetness to seafood pasta dishes and are great cooked into a paella to add a Cornish twist.
Our cockles are harvested from the waters off the south coast in sandy beach areas & shallow waters. These tasty shellfish are landed in small quantities.

Serve piled on toast or stir through pasta
Store live shellfish in the salad drawer of your refrigerator covered with a damp tea towel.
Do not immerse in water; discard any that are open and do not close when tapped lightly.
Rinse with fresh water before cooking.
Please note, the “packaging date” supplied is the date in which the shellfish entered the depuration (cleaning) process. This can sometimes take a number of days and takes place in tightly-controlled conditions. You can read more here.
