We are thrilled to have won five gold star ratings from the 2010 Great Taste Awards. Organised by The Guild of Fine Food, the Great Taste Awards (GTA) is the national, benchmark food awards, employing the country’s most rigorous judging system, ensuring the fairest, most accurate and trusted results. Once you have tried our own home smoked seafood we are sure you will be coming back for more!

The 2010 GTAs has attracted a record number of entries. In total, 6,021 food and drink products were blind-tasted, tested and discussed during two months of intense judging by 350 judges, comprising food writers, chefs, deli and farm shop owners, food producers and buyers.

Just 1,576 products received the much coveted Gold Star Rating, five of which were entries from The Cornish Fishmonger. Due to the high number of products entered and the number of producers taking part, it is unusual for one producer to receive multiple awards.

 

What do the stars mean?

★ GOLD - A VIRTUALLY FAULTLESS FOOD
★★ GOLD - EXQUISITE
★★★ GOLD - WOW! TASTE THAT

 

What are the judges looking for?
They're looking for great texture and appearance. They judge the quality of ingredients and how well the maker has put the food or drink together. But above all, they are looking for truly great taste.

 

How does the judging work?
Working in small teams, the judges taste 20 or 30 foods in each sitting, discussing each product and writing feedback for the producer. Any food they think is worthy of a gold is passed onto a Supreme Jury who, if they agree, will decide whether to award one, two or three gold stars.

 

What should you look for?
The logo. The Great Taste Awards symbol is your guarantee that a product has been through our rigorous judging process. It's not about smart packaging or clever marketing - it's all about taste.
