Fresh mussels are delivered to us each day by Tim who works in the Cornish village of Rock, located on the banks of the River Camel opposite Padstow. Tim's Cornish mussels are bursting with flavour and represent great value. We also have mussels delivered from The Exmouth mussel company based on the banks of the River Exe in Devon, this allows us to deliver you the best mussels from each day.  Please note, live shellfish will lose moisture and weight in transit. Live mussels will open and close on their own and may also still have the beard attached.


Mussels are a great source of important vitamins; with levels of iron and folic acid to rival red meat. Mussels are also a rich source of zinc.

We have a long term relationship with Tim of Porthilly Shellfish, located in the village of Rock opposite Padstow on the banks of the River Camel.  Our mussels are grown in the deep, clear, clean waters of Padstow bay; we believe these just can't be beaten.

All molluscs are depurated to ensure they are full of flavour and safe to eat. Depuration is the process where, over a given period of time (normally 42 hours), shellfish are contained in salt water tanks, with the water pumped over ultraviolet light to reduce any bacteria that may be present within the animal, to the lowest levels possible. This process is monitored by Environmental Health Officers and DEFRA.

Store live shellfish in the salad drawer of your refrigerator covered with a damp tea towel. Do not immerse in water and discard any that do not open or close when tapped lightly. Rinse with fresh water before cooking. Live shellfish has a limited shelf life - enjoy within 2 days.
