Cornish Handline Caught Mackerel

The Cornish Fishmonger has always sourced its handline caught mackerel from the fishing port of Newlyn. We source mackerel landed in other ports if absolutely necessary.  We are fully committed to buying fish from this sustainable fishery whenever possible.

Marine Stewardship Council have threatened us with action if we were to continue to mention within our online shop that we sourse MSC accredited fish without first paying for their factory accreditation scheme.  Therefore, whilst we will continue to provide mackerel from this fishery, we are no longer "calling" it MSC accredited fish, even though it is still sourced from the same fishery that has had MSC accreditation for many years.

The Cornish Fishmonger has elected not to pay MSC accreditation fees of £1000 to prove we are able to separate MSC accredited fish from non accredited fish, as we only buy from fishery mentioned above.

The Cornish Fishmonger is proud to have been part of the Cornish fishing industry for over 30 years, during which time we have committed to an ethical sourcing policy we feel is practical and supportive of fish and our fishing communities.
