KITCHEN ESSENTIALS

To enjoy cooking fish and seafood at home you need a few of the basic tools.  Almost all the equipment needed to cook fish at home is already available in a well stocked kitchen.  Listed below are a few ideas.

Non stick frying pan
This is an essential for the keen fish cook.  So many fish can be pan fried quickly and simply in a non stick pan; the trick is to replace the pan regularly so that you have a pan that doesn't stick!

Sharp filleting knife
Everyone has their own preference of kitchen knives and filleting ones are no exception.  We would be pleased to provide you with the same knives our filleting staff use; please call us for more information (see below for sharpening ideas).

Sharpening steel
A sharpening steel is really only used to refresh the sharpness of a knife.  We hone our knives on a stone before hand.  We can hone a knife before dispatch if required but, please take care as the knife will be REALLY sharp!

Oyster knife
If you enjoy oysters then this knife is a real asset to your kitchen tools.  The blade is short and stubby and purpose built for the job.  Alternatively an old kitchen knife that has a short strong blade that is no longer sharp can be used.

Lobster Pick
These chaps are around 6" long and slim, they have a forked end that is ideal for removing meat from lobster claws.

Fish Slice
A fish slice used to be an important tool of the victorian kitchen.  Increasing interest in fish cookery has brought this implement back in to vogue.  We suggest a modern equivalent to the old silver ones; they're cheaper too!

Garlic Press

If you are not keen on chopping garlic then one of these is the perfect solution.
