For hundreds of years fishermen from almost every fishing port or cove in Cornwall have harvested crab from the crystal clear waters that surround the coast. The crab fished from these waters is considered to be amongst the finest crab available.
Traditionally fishermen haul their strings of pots (between 20 and 40 pots) daily. The catch is sorted and graded for quality. Any small crabs and those that won't make the grade are returned to the sea; this way there is no wasted or discarded fish. Cornwall has protected its crab stock by having a minimum landing size that makes the smallest crab landed in excess of 500g. Other areas of the country have smaller minimum landing sizes of almost half Cornwall's, we suggest that our commitment to landing only larger fish has guaranteed the future of our fishery.Fresh Cornish crab is available to buy live, cooked, dressed in the shell or as hand picked crab meat; please see below for links to our online shop.
